Maja Chwalinska vs Mirra Andreeva prediction

Maja Chwalinska became the second qualifier in the Open Era to book a place in a Grand Slam final with a hard-fought win over Diana Shnaider.

The world number 114 emulated Great Britain’s Emma Raducanu (2021 US Open) as she beat the Russian 25th seed 7-6 6-4 to tee up a showdown for the title with Mirra Andreeva.

The teenage eighth seed had earlier delivered Marta Kostyuk’s first defeat on clay in 2026 with a stunning 6-1 6-3 rout of the Ukrainian.

Unsurprisingly, this will be their first ever showdown and despite the rankings gulf, this is a tricky one to consider.

In normal circumstances, picking the 19-year-old Andreeva in two would be an obvious choice. That may well be how things transpire given how impressively the teenager has performed, but this French Open has been one touched by shock after shock.

It would be fitting for a qualifier to capture the title after such a whirlwind fortnight and if the Polish underdog can neutralise the Russian’s power, she could get under her skin with her clay-court craft and variety.

The odds will certainly favour the risk, but Andreeva has been tipped to deliver Grand Slam titles since a very young age and given her record overall on the dirt, we do expect her to prevail to claim the first of many.
