World number 21 Maja Chwalinska is not in great form. Her defeat of Cristina Bucsa in the first round of the Cincinnati Open earlier this month is her only win in her last six outings since reaching the final of Roland-Garros back in May as a qualifier.

Alycia Parks is looing for a strong US Open this late summer and she earned a surprising but hard-fought three-set victory over Petra Marcinko in the first round the other day in Mexico. She has not earned back-to-back wins since getting to the third round in Athens last month.

Parks will be a worthwhile and competitive opponent for Chwalinska, below her best form that she showed on clay in the early part of summer, but the Pole remains a favourite.
