Magdalena Frech vs Shuai Zhang prediction

Magdalena Frech battled past fourth seed Marie Bouzkova in the quarter-finals, converting eight of 13 break points in a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 success.

This is the Pole's best run at a WTA event for some time and she is now just one match away from her first tour-level final since September 2024, which incidentally also came in Mexico.

Standing in her way is Shuai Zhang, who has been imperious so far in Merida with the Chinese veteran having won all ten sets she has contested in the tournament, including the two qualifying matches she played in order to reach the main draw.

The 37-year-old, who won the Australian Open doubles title this year, completely dismantled fellow qualifier Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva in the quarter-finals, dropping just four games along the way.

Zhang is experiencing something of a renaissance in this tournament, and we're backing her to continue her unexpected run into the final.
