Magdalena Frech vs Peyton Stearns prediction

Magdalena Frech delivered a professional performance to defeat Talia Gibson 6-2, 6-2 in the first round, converting five of her eight break-point opportunities over the Australian in a clinical display.

This is the 28th seed’s fifth entry into the main draw of the US Open, but she is yet to go beyond the second round.

Peyton Stearns won her first Grand Slam game of 2025 in the first round, edging the first set 7-5 against Latvian qualifier Darja Semenistaja, before taking control of the match and bageling her opponent in the second set.

The American’s best showing in New York came two years ago when she reached the round of 16, and that second set against Semenistaja will have given her some much-needed confidence on the hard courts after a string of early exits in the tournaments leading up to the US Open.

Frech is playing with the greater authority right now though, and we’re backing her to overcome Stearns in this one.
