Magdalena Frech vs Iva Jovic prediction

Magdalena Frech continued her impressive record at the Guadalajara Open as she beat Caroline Dolehide in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals. Frech broke five times and was particularly effective against Dolehide’s second serve, winning 71% of those return points. She won 6-4 6-3. This followed a comfortable opening victory over Nao Hibino. The 2024 champion is now back in the last eight for a third successive year at the event.

Her next opponent is Iva Jovic. The defending champion got her campaign off to a winning start, after a hard-fought victory over Zeynep Sonmez in the previous round. Sonmez served for the opening set at 5-4, but Jovic broke back and eventually edged the tiebreak. The teenager secured the decisive break late on in the second set to complete a 7-6 (5) 6-4 win after two hours and nine minutes.

Jovic leads the head-to-head 1-0 after beating Frech in straight sets at the US Open just a few weeks ago. This should be a competitive quarter-final between the tournament’s last two champions, but Jovic has to be considered a firm favourite.
