Magdalena Frech vs Iga Swiatek prediction

Magdalena Frech moved into the second-round of the Wuhan Open following a straight sets win over Mananchaya Sawangkaew. A number of breaks were exchanged during the match, with Frech overcoming a 3-0 deficit in the second but also failing to serve it out at 5-4. She held her nerve in the tiebreak to eventually win 6-3 7-6 (5). Frech only entered the event as a lucky loser.

She will now face six-time major champion Iga Swiatek. The 25-year-old lost in the quarter-finals of the China Open to Elise Mertens in straight sets. Swiatek has won just one title in 2026, the Canadian Open, and she will need to produce a deep run here if she is to improve her distant chances of qualifying for the WTA Finals next month.

Swiatek leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a victory in Warsaw four years ago. She has not enjoyed one of her best seasons on tour, but she remains a heavy favourite to beat Frech.
