Magda Linette vs Jessica Pegula prediction

Having recorded just one Singles victory from her previous four tournaments, Magda Linette recorded a much-needed win in her Cincinnati opener, overcoming Rebecca Sramkova 7-6, 6-0 to teach the third round of this event for the first time in her career.

Despite her recent dip in form, the Pole has enjoyed some positive results on tour this year, reaching the quarter-finals of the 1000-rated Miami Open in March as well as the last eight of the Abu Dhabi Open a month before that.

Another player looking to regain some form, world number four Jessica Pegula had won just one match on tour coming into Cincinnati, since winning the Bad Homburg Open at the end of June.

The American wasn’t at her best in her 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Kimberly Birrell in the second round, but her serve was certainly firing as she recorded five aces and won 83% of points behind her first serve.

It’s fair to say that neither player is at their best right now, but given that Pegula has never lost a set against Linette in their three career meetings – most recently facing off at the Indian Wells Open this year – then a straight-sets win for the fourth seed is a reasonable assumption.
