Magda Linette vs Francesca Jones prediction

Magda Linette last competed at the Cincinnati Open, but she lost her first-round match to Elena-Gabriela Ruse in straight sets. Linette won just three games as she was beaten 6-0 6-3 by the Romanian. Her best result of the season was a semi-final appearance at the Libema Open. Linette’s record on hard courts has not been particularly strong since back-to-back quarter-final finishes in Auckland and Hobart right at the start of the year.

She faces qualifier Francesca Jones in round one of the US Open. The Brit defeated Joanna Garland in the final stage to secure a place in the main draw. Jones has won two lower-level titles this year, winning the second in Palermo towards the end of July. She also reached the last eight at the Auckland Open right at the start of the year.

Jones will take a lot of confidence from how she performed in qualifying, and could trouble Linette at times in this first-round match.
