Madison Keys vs Qinwen Zheng prediction

Madison Keys came back from the brink in her second-round match against Anna Bondar, saving five match points before eventually coming through to win 5-7 6-4 7-6 (5). The American trailed 5-2 in the deciding set and faced her first two match points on Bondar’s serve before fighting back, then saved another three when serving at 5-3 down. She was also 5-3 down in the deciding 10-point tiebreak but reeled off the final seven points to seal victory. She had opened her tournament with a straight sets win over talented teenager Alina Korneeva. 

Qiwen Zheng also needed three sets in round two, overcoming Yulia Putintseva. It was an unusual serving display from the 2024 Olympic champion, as she landed only 48% of first serves but won an outstanding 87% of those points, while firing nine aces. She responded emphatically in the decider to win 6-4 2-6 6-1. 

Zheng won their most recent meeting, coming from a set down to beat Keys in Miami earlier this season. The overall head-to-head is 1-1 as Keys won their first match at the Washington Open in 2023. With both prone to dips in level, another match featuring momentum swings looks likely.
