Mackenzie McDonald vs Luciano Darderi prediction

Mackenzie McDonald edged a tight match with Brandon Holt, winning 6-4 3-7 7-6 after two hours and 32 minutes. McDonald served well for the most part, blasting down 15 aces on his way to victory.

He now faces Luciano Darderi, who is seeded third for this tournament. The Italian last competed in Cincinnati but retired midway through his second-round match against Francisco Comesana. Darderi was trailing 6-4 3-1 before deciding to call it quits. He has reached the top 35 of the world rankings for the first time after a stellar clay season, where he has picked up three titles.

However, Darderi’s hard court season is incredibly poor with one win and six losses on the surface. He also trails McDonald in the head-to-head, with the American comfortably beating him in straight sets two years ago in Acapulco. 

McDonald seems more suited to these conditions and is well-placed to notch up another win over Darderi.
