Mackenzie McDonald will be aiming for a strong run this week ahead of his home slam. He lost in the first-round of the Cincinnati Open last time out to Corentin Moutet in straight sets. The American’s best results have been on the Challenger Tour, as he made the final of a tournament in San Diego at the beginning of March, which stands as his best result of the season so far.

He faces fellow American Brandon Holt in round one of Winston-Salem. Holt is ranked 16 places below in the rankings at 106 in the world. He also was dumped out of the first-round in Cincinnati, losing to Tristan Boyer 6-3 7-6. He mostly competes in Challengers and is yet to win an ATP match on hard court this season.

This is their first match against each other on the tour, though they did face off at the start of the year in the second stage of Australian Open qualifying. McDonald comfortably defeated Holt 6-4 6-4 on that occasion and will be the favourite again here.
