Lulu Sun heads into Wimbledon with plenty of points to defend after a superb run to the quarter-finals last year. This included a three set victory over Great Britain’s Emma Raducanu in the fourth-round on Centre Court. She won only two matches in the three grass court events she competed in leading up to it. She showed her quality at Eastbourne as she defeated defending champion and top seed Daria Kasatkina in round one but couldn’t sustain that level as she lost to Anna Blinkova in the next round.
Marie Bouzkova only competed in Eastbourne after Roland Garros and lost in the first-round, also to Blinkova. The Czech player is another Wimbledon quarter-finalist, achieving the feat three years ago, while she also backed that up with a fourth-round appearance a year later in 2023.
This is a difficult first-round match to call with neither player in the best of form but they've shown in the past how dangerous they can be at Wimbledon. A very close encounter between the two has strong value.
