Luke Humphries vs Gian van Veen prediction

Yet to reach a final in the Premier League this year, things have certainly not gone to plan so far for reigning champion Luke Humphries, with missed doubles having been his Achilles' heel. Indeed, only Josh Rock lays claim to a worse checkout % among the eight competitors to date.

The world number two scored heavily in the UK Open over the weekend, but was a 10-6 loser to Danny Noppert in the round of 16.

By contrast, Gian van Veen has reached three finals in his debut year in the competition, although he is yet to go one step further. Last week in Cardiff, meanwhile, the Dutchman lost 6-4 to league-leader Jonny Clayton at the first hurdle.

The World Championship runner-up also lost his only match in Minehead on Friday, although did average 101.60 in a high-quality fourth-round defeat to Rob Cross (10-7).

This is already the fifth meeting this year between the world number two and three, with Van Veen having won three of them. In fact, the Giant has won seven of their last eight contests and appears to have a psychological edge in this particular matchup.

Humphries will be hungry to change that narrative though, and his averages at the UK Open were certainly promising despite a premature exit. In what should be a high-quality quarter-final battle in Nottingham, we see this one potentially going the distance.

Luke Humphries vs Gian van Veen tip: Over 9.5 legs
