Luciano Darderi vs Vit Kopriva prediction

In-form Vit Kopriva made it seven clay-court wins in a row to upset second seed Lorenzo Sonego in a rollercoaster second round clash on Thursday evening.

The world number 106 was up 6-2 5-1 but unravelled to allow Sonego to level and then secure an early break in the decider. The Czech rallied and turned it around with four straight games before finally serving out the match 6-2 5-7 6-4 in two hours and 42 topsy-turvy minutes.

It means Naples champion Kopriva will face a rematch of the Challenger final against Luciano Darderi last week for a place in the last four in Marrakesh.

Seventh seed Darderi secured back-to-back ATP Tour wins for the first time since Hamburg nine months ago by ousting enigmatic Frenchman Hugo Gaston 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

The world number 57 overcame some serious frustration in converting only four of his 14 break points while coughing up his serve on every one of Gaston’s three opportunities. The 23-year-old will need to be more ruthless and stubborn under pressure if he’s to end Kopriva’s winning streak.

The players will meet on the ATP Tour for the first time, but have faced off at a lower level on four previous occasions on clay with the Czech leading the match-up 3-1.

Last week Kopriva lifted the trophy with a 3-6 6-3 7-6 win in Naples and we expect it to be another tight affair but with a similar outcome.
