Luciano Darderi vs Marcos Giron prediction
Luciano Darderi staged a fine comeback as he came from a set and a break down to beat Alejandro Tabilo in the round-of-16 at the Auckland Open. Tabilo dominated the first set and opened up a 3-1 lead in the second, but Darderi came back into the match and made a strong start in the decider to win 1-6 7-5 6-4 after one hour and 48 minutes.
He faces Marcos Giron in the next stage. Giron continued his encouraging start to the season with a straight sets win over Alex Michelsen. He was broken in his first service game but held serve after that, winning 6-4 6-4 to register his third straight win against the 21-year-old. He will now be aiming for back-to-back semi-finals to start the year.
The head-to-head is all square at 1-1, but this is their first match on a hard court. Giron won their last meeting in Eastbourne last summer. The American has the more solid and powerful game on this surface and should be favoured here.
