A left-handed hitter, Shang’s ability to clutch up when trailing 5-3 in the third will have caught the attention of everyone on tour and Luciano Darderi has a big challenge on his hands.
The Italian had a more comfortable route to the third round, opponent Gabriel Diallo retiring hurt midway through the second set with Darderi having taken the first 6-4. He should be significantly fresher heading into this showdown and whilst Shang showed unbelievable grit to get through, replicating those performance levels again will be tough.
