Brandon Nakashima will be fresh for an intriguing encounter with Luciano Darderi in the round of 16 in Hamburg.

The seventh seed was leading 6-5 when qualifier Raphael Collignon retired in their first round encounter.

The American will now face a much sterner test against Darderi who won 90% of the points on his first serve in a 6-1 6-4 demolition of German youngster Diego Dedura. 

This will be their first ever meeting on tour and the Italian may well make life difficult for the seed, particularly if he continues to mop up points so efficiently off the first serve. 

Nakashima has more firepower and if he finds the right balance of risk on the attack he should come through.
