Luca Nardi is still searching for his first win of the year after a poor start to the season. He competed on the Challenger Tour in Canberra at the beginning of the month but lost in round one to Chris Rodesch. He then transitioned back to the ATP as he faced Aleksandar Vukic in the first stage of qualifying for the Adelaide International. Despite taking the first set, he would go on to lose to Vukic.
He takes on Yibing Wu. He competed at the Hong Kong Open and won his first match against Fabian Marozsan before losing to Andrey Rublev. Wu then picked up three wins in qualifying to enter the main draw in Melbourne.
Wu’s aggression and depth of shot was a feature of his success in qualifying, and he will hope to dictate the rallies early against Nardi and take advantage. He has momentum behind him and has the game to defeat the out-of-form Italian.
