Lorenzo Sonego vs Tommy Paul prediction

Lorenzo Sonego progressed to the second-round of the French Open after beating Pierre-Hugues Herbert in a five set epic. With his opponent serving for the first set, Sonego produced a timely break before edging the ensuing tiebreak. It eventually went to a fifth, with the Italian going on to win 7-6 (3) 5-7 6-2 1-6 6-4 after four hours and nine minutes.

He now takes on Tommy Paul. The American was not at his best but still beat Rinky Hijikata in four sets. Paul was competing in the final of the Hamburg Open just a couple of days earlier and he made a slow start as he went behind early on. Despite not being fully secure on serve, Paul would turn things around to win 4-6 6-3 7-5 6-4.

Paul leads the ATP head-to-head 2-1. They last played at the 2024 US Open in the first-round, with Paul winning in four sets. He should be able to neutralise Sonego’s serve and create more opportunities in his return games. His consistency and movement are also likely to give him the edge here.

Lorenzo Sonego vs Tommy Paul tip: Under 35.5 games
