Lorenzo Sonego vs Stefan Dostanic prediction

Lorenzo Sonego enters Winston-Salem on the back of two third-round finishes in Toronto and Cincinnati. He lost a close match to Andrey Rublev in the former event despite taking the first set, while Taylor Fritz edged past him 7-6 7-5 in the latter. The Italian was struggling in the spring but his form has improved over the last two months, having also reached the fourth-round at Wimbledon for the second time in July. He comes into this event as the defending champion and is bidding for a second straight title. 

He faces world number 412 Stefan Dostanic in round two. Dostanic earned his first ever ATP Tour win with a brilliant win over Aleksandar Vukic in the first-round. He broke early in the first and that proved to be the difference as he went a set up. They exchanged breaks at the start of the second set but Dostanic raced ahead after that, breaking Vukic’s serve on two more occasions to wrap up a 6-4 6-2 win.

That was a landmark win for the American but his run at the tournament is highly likely to come to an end at the hands of the 2024 winner.
