Lorenzo Sonego vs Frances Tiafoe prediction

Lorenzo Sonego began his campaign in Cincinnati Open with a straight sets win over Juncheng Shang. The Italian was broken in his very first service game, but he held serve after that as he completed a 6-3 6-3 win after one hour and 27 minutes. He has struggled with injury this season and is yet to reach a quarter-final in 2026, with his best result being a third-round appearance at Wimbledon.

He plays Frances Tiafoe next. The 28-year-old’s frustrating North American hard court swing continued in Montreal as he was forced to retire from his third-round match with Arthur Rinderknech due to a hand injury. Tiafoe has since undergone surgery after doctors discovered a cyst. 

Sonego leads the head-to-head 3-1 and 2-0 on outdoor hard court, while he has also won the last three meetings. However, they have not faced each other since 2023. There are still some question marks over Tiafoe’s fitness following his hand surgery, while Sonego has the power to hit through him in these quick conditions.
