Lorenzo Musetti will have great belief that he will break new ground and reach the round of 16 in Melbourne for the first time.

The Italian continues to look the real deal as he aims to build upon a stellar 2025. Indeed, the fifth seed was too strong for his compatriot Lorenzo Sonego last time out after a slow-ish start against Raphael Collignon. 

Next up, it’s the dangerous Tomas Machac, who has the weapons to be a problem for Musetti, having shown in it with a clinical two-set win in their only previous meeting in Marseille in 2024. 

The Czech is also bidding to reach the round of 16 Down Under for the first time and will be buoyed by wins over significant names in the shape of Gregor Dimitrov and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

It has the all the makings of being a hard-fought, close contest and Tomas could certainly cause a surprise if he serves well. That said, Musetti is living up to some of the hype surrounding him when he broke on to the main tour and can’t be so easily bullied by big hitters now. 

A punt on it going over three is a more pragmatic shout, although considerations for the extremely high temperatures expected should also come into your thinking.
