Elise Mertens may not have reached the quarter-finals in her career at this tournament, but she does have three fourth round appearances to her name.
The Belgian has had plenty of preparation, playing both singles and doubles. She’s picked up some notable wins along the way, such as Jessica Pegula in Rome and also took Aryna Sabalenka to three sets in Madrid. Her consistency and ability to hit the ground running is why she so rarely loses in the first round of a singles tournament.
Mertens has the stronger all-round game compared to Boisson, who can at least play with pressure off her shoulders. The experience will be priceless for her, but Mertens is expected to advance fairly comfortably.
