Lloyd Harris swept aside Sebastian Baez in three sets to make the second-round of the US Open. The South African qualifier, who reached the quarter-finals in 2021, struck 29 winners as he defeated Baez 6-3 7-5 6-4 in two hours and 16 minutes.
Taylor Fritz, the fourth seed, will be his next opponent. Fritz was always in control against Emilio Nava, not dropping serve as he won 7-5 6-2 6-3 in his first-round match. The American number one reached the final of his home slam last year and began his campaign this year with a very comfortable victory.
The head-to-head is 1-1 but Fritz leads 1-0 on outdoor hard court after a victory in the Cincinnati Open. Both matches took place in 2020, and Fritz is a far more complete player these days. His serve is always very solid, and he is very likely to come through this in straight sets against the qualifier.
