Liudmila Samsonova vs Peyton Stearns prediction
Liudmila Samsonova pulled off an upset in the quarter-finals as she came from a set down to knock out top seed Marta Kostyuk. Samsonova trailed 4-2 in the deciding set and then came within two points of defeat at 5-4 down, but recovered to win the final three games, claiming a 4-6 6-2 7-5 victory. This was her first top 10 win of the season, and this is now her best result of the campaign.
She plays Peyton Stearns next. The American is one match away from a second final of the season, following a straight sets win over compatriot Sloane Stephens. Stearns, who lost in the first-round of the US Open to Harriet Dart, edged clear after a tight first set tiebreak and went on to win 7-6 (6) 6-4.
Samsonova possesses the greater outright power and should be dangerous when she can dictate behind her first serve, but Stearns is yet to drop a set this week and has been the more consistent player overall.
