Linda Noskova defeated Taylah Preston in three sets to make the third-round in Melbourne. The 21-year-old went a set and a break up but was forced to dig deep as Preston increased her level and fought back to level the match up, breaking as Noskova served to stay in the second set. The pair exchanged early breaks in the decider, but Noskova’s extra quality told and she went on to claim a 6-2 4-6 6-2 win after one hour and 44 minutes. She reached the quarter-finals here two years ago.

Xinyu Wang is her next opponent. She came from a set down to defeat former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko. A topsy-turvy match saw 15 breaks of serve overall, with Ostapenko leading by a set and a break at one point, but despite Wang failing to serve it out at 5-3 in the decider, she broke in the very next game to seal the win.

Noskova leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a straight sets win in the semi-finals of the Prague Open last year. This is not the easiest of matches for Noskova, but if she dictates the rallies early on, she will be expected to come through with the win.
