Linda Noskova stormed past Darja Semenistaja in the first-round of the Australian Open to advance. Noskova raced into a 4-1 lead in the first set and never really looked back, breaking six times in total to seal a 6-3 6-0 win after just 58 minutes. Noskova is close to breaking into the top 10 of the world rankings and reached the quarter-finals in Melbourne as a 19-year-old in 2024.

She faces Taylah Preston next. She overcame Shuai Zhang in three sets to make it through. The deciding set swung in different directions, with Preston going a break up but being pegged back on two separate occasions. She broke for the third time and went on to seal a 6-3 2-6 6-3 victory.

Despite her low ranking, Preston has made a brilliant start to the campaign, with five wins out of seven and a semi-final appearance in Hobart leading up to her home slam. Nevertheless, Noskova will be expected to come through in straight sets.
