Linda Noskova suffered an early exit in Montreal as she lost to Jaqueline Cristian 6-3 6-4 in the second-round after receiving a bye. That match was just three days after her loss in the final of her home tournament in Prague to Marie Bouzkova despite taking the first set. Noskova has enjoyed a week’s rest ahead of her campaign in Cincinnati and that may prove vital after a busy period for the Czech.
She will take on Iva Jovic in round two. The 17-year-old only got through to the main draw as a lucky loser but won in the first-round against Solana Sierra. Jovic defeated the Argentine 6-3 7-6.
Noskova will be a strong favourite to get through this one. She showed her quality at Wimbledon with a run to the fourth-round and followed that up with a second final appearance in Prague. She will have been hugely disappointed to not get over the line once again and that may have played a part in her defeat to Cristian in Montreal. She will be raring to go against Jovic and will be a clear favourite to advance to the third-round.
