Linda Noskova breezed past Ajla Tomljanovic in the first-round of the Bad Homburg Open. She did not face a break point as she wrapped up a 6-3 6-2 win over the Australian.
She now plays Donna Vekic in the next round of the competition. Vekic picked up a fine victory in the first-round as she exacted revenge on Diana Shnaider for her defeat in last year’s final and at the German Open last week. The Croatian won 6-3 6-3 and was always in control, not losing serve and striking the ball with confidence on the forehand side especially.
Noskova has the edge in the head-to-head, winning their only previous match in Doha earlier this year. The Czech won 6-2 6-4 in the first-round. This is a difficult match to predict as Noskova has shown her capabilities on the grass already with her quarter-final appearance at Nottingham, but Vekic produced her best performance in weeks to oust Shnaider. This one could go the distance.
