Linda Noskova booked her place in the next round of the Cincinnati Open after a straight sets win over Clara Tauson. Noskova fell behind early in the match and Tauson served for the opening set, but the Wimbledon champion broke back before prevailing in a tiebreak to move ahead. The second set was far more comfortable as Noskova completed a 7-6 (3) 6-2 win after an hour and 38 minutes.
She will now play Amanda Anisimova next. The American produced an impressive turnaround to see off Alexandra Eala. Anisimova broke in the seventh game of the first set, but Eala reeled off three games in a row to take the lead. The former world number three controlled the second and recovered from a 2-0 deficit in the decider to win 4-6 6-4 6-2.
Anisimova leads the head-to-head 2-1 and has won the last two meetings. All of their previous matches have been closely contested, and this encounter is likely to prove no different.
