Linda Noskova continued her best run at a WTA 1000 event as she reached her second final of the season after beating Jessica Pegula in a dramatic three set match. Noskova claimed the only break of the first set in the sixth game to take the lead, only for her American opponent to force a decider after dominating the second. Both players traded breaks at the start of the third set, but Pegula looked set to clinch victory as she broke to serve for the match. Noskova sensationally saved three match points and edged a nervy tiebreak to win 6-3 1-6 7-6.
Amanda Anisimova will be her opponent in the final after she produced a phenomenal display to overwhelm defending champion Coco Gauff. The two-time Grand Slam finalist broke on five separate occasions as she thrashed Gauff 6-1 6-2 after just 58 minutes. The world number four has already won a 1000 event in Dubai and is now into her fifth final of the season.
The head-to-head is 1-1 with Noskova leading 1-0 on hard courts. She defeated Anisimova in the third-round of Indian Wells two years ago, with the American winning their match at Queen’s earlier this year. Anisimova has elevated her game over the past few months, and her ferocious groundstrokes are likely to create plenty of other opportunities against Noskova.
