Lin Zhu vs Sorana Cirstea prediction
After four straight WTA losses, including a first-round defeat at the US Open, Lin Zhu dropped down to play on the ITF Tour in Guiyang, winning four matches in a row before a loss in the final to Hanyu Guo in three sets. Zhu will take confidence from that run into the Korea Open in Seoul.
She faces Sorana Cirstea in the first-round. The 35-year-old headed into the US Open in brilliant form after winning on the WTA Tour in Cleveland a week prior to the major. However, despite a comfortable first-round win, Cirstea could not go any further than round two after a tight three set loss to Karolina Muchova.
Their only previous match saw Zhu defeat Cirstea in the first-round of last year’s Birmingham Classic, but they’ve never played each other on a hard court. The Romanian will be well rested after a break and will hope to resume her strong record on hard courts over the past month, which also included a round-of-16 appearance in Cincinnati. She is a commanding favourite in this one.
