Teen star Lilli Tagger’s sensational run continued with a solid win over Tamara Korpatsch.

The world number 235’s rapid rise up the rankings will continue following this tournament, but she could yet reach a maiden WTA final if she can oust reigning champion Viktorija Golubic.

The Swiss second seed produced arguably her best match yet in Jiangxi this year as she charged to a 7-5 6-2 success over fifth seed Yulia Putintseva.

It’s very much a David versus Goliath encounter in terms of experience and with it being a lower-ranked teen against the 2024 winner.

The fairytale story would see Tagger prevail here and she will have nothing to lose, but Golubic clearly loves the conditions here and we expect her title defence to continue into the final.
