Leylah Fernandez vs Tatjana Maria prediction

Leylah Fernandez endured a poor clay season and is on a three-match losing streak after early exits in Rome, Strasbourg and Paris. She suffered a heavy defeat at Roland Garros in the first-round, losing 6-3 6-1 to Olga Danilovic. The Canadian has struggled on the tour since making the quarter-finals of the Abu Dhabi Open in early February. Fernandez has yet to make a genuine impact at Wimbledon but showed off her grass court credentials last season by making the final of the Eastbourne International.

Tatjana Maria has already played some grass court tennis as she competed in the Birmingham Classic but lost in the first-round. Nevertheless, she didn’t let that disappointment affect her during the qualifying stage of this tournament as she won both of her matches to advance to the main draw.

Maria reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon in 2022 and won one of her three titles on grass, at the Mallorca Open seven years ago. She also leads the head-to-head 2-0 but this will be their first match on grass.

Despite Maria’s suitability to grass and her previous experience, the 37-year-old may struggle when having to cope with Fernandez’s athleticism and strong return game. We lean towards the Canadian winning this.
