Marta Kostyuk was hugely impressive in her 6-4 6-2 win over Daria Kasatkina.
The Ukrainian’s form on clay has been exceptional so far with her only defeat in six matches on the surface coming at the hands of world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the Madrid quarter-finals.
The world number 27 dropped just one game in her Rome opener against Alexander Eala and has yet to cough up a set.
It’s not quite been the same case with Leylah Fernandez, who has won two and lost two of her four matches on clay in 2025, although the 24th seed did look sharp in her 6-4 6-0 victory over qualifier Antonia Ruzic.
This will be their first meeting and although the Canadian is the seeded player, the current form on this surface points firmly towards Kostyuk.
