Coming off the back of having reached the French Open girls’ final, 16-year-old Hannah Klugman faces an entirely different challenge here, certainly the biggest of her fledgling career so far. Leylah Fernandez of course, is a player who knows all about being on the big stage at a young age, making it to the US Open final at just 19 years of age. She’s obviously a lot further along in her career than Klugman and is aiming to reach the second round for a third straight year.
Klugman’s deft touch at the net and ability to hang on there when it comes to long rallies will obviously be critical for her if she is to cause a big upset here. Fernandez though, is not only capable of battling when needed, but can also come out of the blocks very fast which may well leave Klugman facing an early deficit.
