Leylah Fernandez vs Elena Rybakina prediction

Leylah Fernandez made it through to her first semi-final of the season after getting past Taylor Townsend in straight sets. The Canadian made a strong start to the match, racing to a 5-1 lead before ultimately taking the set 6-4. The second set was more hard-fought as Townsend served to force a decider at 5-4 up but she was broken by Fernandez. The former US Open finalist won four points in a row to win the tiebreak. This could have been a far more comfortable result, but Fernandez converted just five break point opportunities out of 23 on offer.

Her conversion rate will have to be much improved against her semi-final opponent Elena Rybakina. The former Wimbledon champion comfortably beat Magdalena Frech in straight sets. Rybakina served strongly as she wasn’t broken and won 83% of her points on first serve.

The head-to-head is locked at 1-1 and both were on hard court. They took place last year, with Rybakina winning their first encounter in Dubai but Fernandez exacting revenge in Cincinnati, coming from a set down to win.

Rybakina will be the favourite for this one and her solid all-round game should be too much for Fernandez.
