Leylah Fernandez vs Anna Kalinskaya prediction

Leylah Fernandez produced a battling display to defeat third seed Elena Rybakina in three sets in her semi-final match. Fernandez was a set and a break down and had to save three other break points to stop herself going down a double break. She then broke Rybakina when the former Wimbledon champion served for the match at 5-4 and forced a decider. The third sent went on serve and had to be decided on yet another tiebreak, with Fernandez winning 6-7 7-6 7-6 to reach a first final of the year.

She will face Anna Kalinskaya who kept up her brilliant week with a straight sets win over Emma Raducanu in the last form. Raducanu headed into the match in decent form, but she was no match for the Russian, who won 6-4 6-3 after an hour and 34 minutes. She has still not dropped a set this week.

The head-to-head is 1-0 in favour of Fernandez. She defeated Kalinskaya in the first-round of the Guadalajara Open in March 2021. Nevertheless, it was a close three set match and took place over four years ago now.

Fernandez is a true fighter, as shown by her semi-final match, but it’s hard to look past Kalinskaya for this one. She’s struggled this year, but everything seems to have come together this week and this is a fabulous opportunity to win her first title on the WTA Tour.
