Whilst Alycia Parks impressed in the first round of the Miami Open by beating Varvara Gracheva in three sets, it remains to be seen how much the win took out of the Atlanta native physically and whether it could have an adverse impact on her game against the energetic Leylah Fernandez. Parks will have to dig deep here and the expected pro-USA crowd will surely play their part in rooting her the 24-year-old on.
Their one previous encounter back at the 2024 Australian Open also took place on hard court and saw Parks come out on top in straight sets. Her power game is extremely well-suited to the surface and that was evident against Gracheva, with Parks reeling off 13 aces. Her first serve was crucial to dominating the court and doing that again in this match would set her up for success.
