Learner Tien makes his debut on grass hoping to make a strong impact after picking up a solitary win in the clay swing.

The teenage world number 68 is also a novice on the turf but may feel there is an opportunity against Nishioka.

The Japanese has a 4-12 career record on grass and a preference for hard courts like Tien.

The American world number 78 made a brief appearance on turf at a Birmingham Challenger last week after playing just two matches on clay, but retired while trailing. 

This will be their first meeting with neither player in particularly good form. 

Tien will need to be solid to see off a stubborn opponent like Nishioka but even at 19 he is showing sharp tennis IQ and adapts quickly. 

He is also a rapid mover and in fast conditions that could be key.
