Learner Tien vs Nishesh Basavareddy prediction
Learner Tien struggled to make an impact in Stuttgart and Halle but did find some form in Mallorca in the final week of the grass court season before Wimbledon. He defeated compatriot and number one seed Ben Shelton in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals. That’s the first big win of Tien’s young career on grass and he now has three top 10 wins this season.
Nishesh Basavareddy will be his opponent in round one. The 20-year-old failed to register a main draw victory on grass over the past few weeks. He did get through qualifying last week in Mallorca with wins over Botic van de Zandschulp and Mariano Navone but lost in the first-round to Hamad Medjedovic.
These two are both young and inexperienced when it comes to operating on grass, but Tien has the great pedigree already. He also has two wins over Basavareddy on the Challenger Tour, with both victories coming last year. The 19-year-old will be expected to make it through.
