Learner Tien vs Miomir Kecmanovic prediction

Learner Tien broke new ground in his career last time out as he reached his first ever final on the ATP Tour at the China Open. He won a total of four matches, beating Flavio Cobolli while also outlasting Lorenzo Musetti and Daniil Medvedev as they were both forced to retire with Tien leading in the deciding set. In the final, would lose to Jannik Sinner in straight sets. The 19-year-old is now the youngest player inside the top 40 of the world rankings and has the most top 10 wins of anyone this season, after Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner.

Miomir Kecmanovic will be his first-round opponent in Shanghai. His China Open by contrast was short-lived, as he lost in round one to Jakub Mensik. This follows a poor run of form for the Serb, as he was also defeated by Joao Fonseca in the first-round of the US Open and he currently has three defeats from his last four matches.

Kecmanovic leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a win at the US Open three years ago but Tien was just 16 at the time and still managed to take a set off the Serb, who was seeded for that major. It’s a quick turnaround for the young American, having played the final of Beijing just two days prior, but he has won six of his last eight matches and deserves to start as the favourite.
