Leandro Riedi qualified for the US Open with three victories without the drop of a set. The Swiss also qualified for the Cincinnati Open earlier this month. He put up a fight against Learner Tien in the first-round but lost in straight sets. The Swiss has had to build results on the Challenger Tour after knee surgery saw his ranking drop, but he will hope to take the momentum from qualifying with him here.
Pedro Martinez is coming into this on the back of a third-round appearance in Winston-Salem. He is primarily a clay courter but can still perform on hard surfaces, shown by his run to the quarter-finals in Rotterdam this February. However, his outdoor hard court record is not particularly inspiring, with nine defeats from 13 matches overall.
Martinez does have tour-level experience but Riedi’s consistent approach, along with his efficient serve makes him a strong contender to pull off an upset against the Spaniard.
