Laura Siegemund vs Coco Gauff prediction
Laura Siegemund achieved her joint-best result of the season as she got through to the quarter-finals with a straight sets win over Magdalena Frech. It was a battling performance from the German, who recovered from 4-1 down at the start as she reeled off five games in a row to take the first set. Frech again opened up a lead in set two at 5-2, but Siegemund broke when she was serving for the set and dominated the tiebreak to advance.
Coco Gauff is her next opponent. The two-time Grand Slam singles champion defeated Zhang Shuai 6-3 6-2. The American has not dropped a set at the tournament so far and has found some form during the last stretch of the season, having made the last four at the China Open a week ago.
The head-to-head is 1-1, though Siegemund’s victory took place in early 2020 when Gauff was just 15. Their most recent encounter was a bad-tempered affair in the first-round of the 2023 US Open, with the American coming from a set down to win on her way to her maiden slam triumph.
Gauff has been very solid at this event so far, having also made the final last year, and she will be expected to come through this one in straight sets.
