Laslo Djere’s poor form continued on the Challenger Tour last time out as he lost to Coleman Wong in Jinan. That first-round defeat extended his winless run to five matches, stretching all the way back to the Mallorca Championships in June. The Serb also picked up an injury which kept him out for two months during that time, but his performance level has dropped alarmingly since his successful clay court season, which saw him lift the title in Santiago.

He will go up against Alexander Shevchenko who is competing in his home tournament. He was comprehensively beaten by Yoshihito Nishioka in round one of Shanghai, though his run in Chengdu was far more impressive as he beat the likes of Gael Monfils and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard to get through to the semi-finals, where he lost to top seed Lorenzo Musetti. That was his best result on the tour so far this season.

Shevchenko is in the better form of the two and will have the home support for this one. He is likely to be viewed as the firm favourite to advance.
