Kyrian Jacquet comes into this tournament as a lucky loser, after a defeat to Great Britain’s Jan Choinski in the second stage of qualifying. He also failed to qualify for the Paris Masters last week after a loss to Aleksandar Kovacevic. He is ranked 156 in the world, having reached a career high of 142 in June. He does have three titles on the Challenger Tour and will be hoping to pick up his first ATP win in Metz.
He takes on a fellow Frenchman in Luca Van Assche. The 21-year-old did qualify for the tournament and has already won on the ATP Tour this season, as he made the second-round in Marseille during the earlier part of the campaign. He won a Challenger title, his first for two years, in Olbia just last month and reached the quarter-finals of this event as a teenager.
Van Assche is a talented player and has a number of wins under his belt over the last month. He should have enough to beat Jacquet in round one.
