The Aussie has tumbled from a peak high of 60 back in May down to her current ranking of 114.

First up here, she meets a dangerous opponent in 19-year-old Czech starlet Nikola Bartnkova.

The teenager has developed a real winning habit on the ITF circuit and has also picked up a trio of  victories at tour-level this year.

The 27-year-old Birrell has way more experience and will look to be solid and consistent in this one, but it may not be enough against an opponent who is rocketing up the rankings.
