Kayla Day won her second WTA 1000 main draw match of the season as she came from a set and a break down to beat Diane Parry. Day was in trouble as Parry led after the first set and broke to go 2-1 up in the second. Nevertheless, she broke back and levelled the match, before recovering from a 3-0 deficit in the decider to win 3-6 6-3 7-5 after two hours and 28 minutes.
Coco Gauff suffered a heartbreaking loss at Wimbledon in the semi-finals, as she squandered a match point in the deciding set tiebreak against Karolina Muchova. There were still plenty of positives for Gauff to take after her best ever run at SW19, and she will hope to carry the momentum on with a strong showing at the Canadian Open. The American is without a title this season, though she has reached two WTA 1000 finals. She received a bye in round one.
Gauff will be expected to win this match comfortably and advance to round three.
