Katie Volynets vs Linda Noskova prediction

Katie Volynets enjoyed the perfect preparation for the US Open, winning the WTA 125 event in Philadelphia without dropping a set and defeating Tereza Valentova in the final. That was her first title of the campaign, though Volynets did also reach the final in Newport. Her best WTA result of the season was a semi-final appearance at the Ostrava Open, where she would lose to eventual winner Katie Boulter. 

She faces Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova in the first-round. After that stunning triumph at the All England Club, Noskova did not feature on the tour until the Canadian Open, but she lost her opening match against Caty McNally. She fared better in Cincinnati, winning two matches to reach the round-of-16. However, she would then lose to Amanda Anisimova.

Volynets does have momentum on her side after that title, but Noskova is a huge step up in terms of opposition, and the 21-year-old will start as a clear favourite.
