Katie Boulter continued her good form in the first-round of the Merida Open as she defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia in straight sets. The former British number one struggled on serve, as she produced a first serve percentage of just 36% and was broken on five separate occasions. Nevertheless, her return game provided her with plenty of opportunities to break back, and she still managed to win 6-4 6-4.
She faces Camila Osorio in the next round. Osorio continued her excellent run as she beat Janice Tjen in straight sets. The Colombian was 4-1 down in the first set but reeled off five straight games to pull ahead. Osorio was a break down in the second too but wrestled back the momentum yet again to win 6-4 6-3 after one hour and 14 minutes.
Boulter has won her last six matches, while Osorio has come out on top in 10 of her last 11. Both players are in form, but Boulter will be on the backfoot if she serves as poorly as she did in her last match.
